Acceleration

Chambers's Encyclopaedia, Volume 1: A to Beaufort, p. 29

Acceleration is a term used in the science of Kinematics (q.v.). If a point be moving with variable velocity, its motion is said to be accelerated, and the rate of change of velocity is termed its acceleration.—For the acceleration of the moon, see MOON; for that of the fixed stars, see STAR.
