Acceph'ala (Gr., 'headless'), a term used from the time of Aristotle in reference to the class of bivalve molluscs or Lamellibranchs (q.v.). It has in the main retained its application, though some forms which it once included, such as the sea squirts in Cuvier's classification, have been removed to other divisions.
