Alttötting, a very ancient place of pilgrimage in Upper Bavaria, not far from the river Inn. The chapel, said to have been built on the site of a heathen temple, contains the famous black image of the Virgin Mary, dating from the 8th century, and an extraordinarily rich treasure of gold, silver, and precious stones. Another chapel contains the tomb of Tilly. Pop. 3232.
