Amaryllis, a genus of bulbous-rooted herbs of the natural order Amaryllidææ (q.v.), contains a large number of species, natives of the warmer regions of the globe. Many of them have flowers of very great beauty, and are extensively cultivated by florists, who have also produced many varieties and hybrids.
