Amazonas. (1) The northernmost province of Brazil, has an area of 733,000 sq. m., and an estimated population in 1890 of 147,915. Its surface is covered with virgin forests.—(2) A fertile department of Pern, bounded on the N. by Ecuador, with an area of 14,129 sq. m. Pop. 34,245.
