Ammanati. BARTOLOMEO, architect and sculptor, was born at Florence in 1511, and died in 1592. He was a pupil of Bandinelli and Sansovino. Pope Julius III. employed him in the decoration of the Capitol, and Cosimo de' Medici appointed him his architect. His works have all a certain grandeur of character, but are marred by mannerisms.
