Amyclæ, (1) an ancient town of Laconia, on the eastern bank of the Eurotas, 2 miles SE. of Sparta. It was the home of Castor and Pollux, the 'Amyclæan brothers.' It was conquered by the Spartans only before the first Messenian war.—(2) An ancient town of Latium, which claimed to have been built by a colony from the Greek Amycæ.
