Andelys, LES, a town in the Norman department of Eure, France, consisting of Great and Little Andelys, situated less than a mile apart, and about 20 miles NE. of Evreux. Great Andelys has a Gothic church of the 13th century, with fine painted glass. Little Andelys, close by the Seine, stands below the castle rock of Château Gaillard, a castle built by Richard Cœur de Lion to command the Seine, and taken and retaken during the old wars between England and France.
