Angermanland, a former division of Sweden, now chiefly comprised in the government of Western-norrland, extends along the Gulf of Bothnia, and is watered by the river Angerman. It exhibits great variety of wild and beautiful landscape, and is one of the best cultivated districts in Sweden. The river Angerman, 200 miles long, is, in its lower course, navigable for large ships. The chief town of the district is Hernöesand, with a pop. of 5000.
