Annelida (Lat. anellus, 'a little ring'), a term due to Lamarck, and definitely applied by Cuvier to the higher red-blooded worms. The term is no longer generally used in classification, but where it does persist, it usually includes the three classes—Chetopoda, Discophora, and Gephyrea. See Worms.
