ARREST OF JUDGMENT

Chambers's Encyclopaedia, Volume 1: A to Beaufort, p. 449

ARREST OF JUDGMENT is the name of a motion made after verdict in the criminal courts of England, for acquittal on the ground that there is a blunder in the indictment. There was formerly a similar application in the common law courts, but this is now by appeal from the order of the judge to enter the verdict. See JUDGMENT.
