Arterio-venous aneurism is the name applied to the communication of an artery with a vein, either directly (aneurismal varix), or through an intervening aneurism (varieose aneurism). This condition is almost always the result of a wound injuring both artery and vein, and was at one time not uncommon as a consequence of bleeding being performed by non-professional persons. Cir-soid aneurism, and aneurism by anastomosis, are names given to a rare disease, which consists in great dilatation, elongation, and tortuosity of the arteries affected.
