Arvad (Gr. Arados), an ancient city of Phoenicia, occupying a small island barely a mile in circumference, 2 miles from the coast, near the mouth of the river Eleutherus. It is said to have been founded by the Sidonians, and was famed for the seafaring skill of its inhabitants.
