Ashborne, a pleasant market-town of Derbyshire, 13 miles NW. of Derby. Its church (1241) has a fine spire, the 'Pride of the Peak,' 212 feet high, and an exquisite monument by Banks. There are also a grammar-school (1585) and a market-hall (1861). Prince Charles Edward was here in 1745, and here Moore wrote great part of Lalla Rookh. Pop. 3810.
