Auchinleck, an Ayrshire village, 15 miles E. of Ayr by rail, with a pop. of 1489. The parish contains Auchinleck House (locally called 'Place Affleck'), the seat of the Boswell family. Here, beside this mansion, Sir Alexander Boswell, son of Johnson's biographer, established in 1815 the Auchinleck Press, for printing MSS. and rare works, such as the Romance of Sir Tristrem, the Disputation between John Knox and the Abbot of Crossraguel, &c.
