Avie'nus, RUFUS FESTUS, a Latin descriptive poet of some merit, who flourished about the end of the 4th century. His works are Descriptio Orbis Terræ, in 1394 hexameters; Ora Maritima, in 703 iambic trimeters, describing the Mediterranean shore from Marseilles to Cadiz; Aratea Phænomena, in 1325, and Aratea Prognostica, in 552 hexameters, a paraphrase of the two well-known works of Aratus.
