Ba'charach

Ba'charach, a small town of Rhenish Prussia, on the left bank of the Rhine, 30 miles SE. of Coblenz by rail. Population, 1900. Its name is said to be a corruption of Bacchi ara ('Bacchus') altar'), and the vine is still largely cultivated in the neighbourhood. Here Blücher crossed the Rhine on January 1, 1814.
