Baini, GIUSEPPE

Chambers's Encyclopaedia, Volume 1: A to Beaufort, p. 665

Baini, GIUSEPPE, musician, was born at Rome in 1775, and was director of the pope's choir from 1814 till his death in 1844. The severe gravity and profound science of his compositions contrasted strongly with the careless style and shallow dilettantism of most of his conpeers; but less by his compositions than by his historical researches did Baini secure for himself a prominent place in musical literature. His principal work is his Life of Palestrina (1828).
