Bakewell, an ancient market-town in Derbyshire, on the left bank of the Wye, 25 miles NNW. of Derby. It has warm baths and a mineral spring, a fine but over-restored church, with an 8th or 9th century cross, and charming environs, Haddon Hall and Chatsworth being not far off. Pop.
