Bartoli'ni, LORENZO, a celebrated Italian sculptor, was born at Vernio, in Tuscany, in 1777, and came to Paris while still a young man. His chief patron was Napoleon, who in 1808 sent him to Carrara, to establish a school of sculpture. After the battle of Waterloo he repaired to Florence, where he died in 1850. Besides an immense number of busts, he produced several groups, the most celebrated of which are his 'Charity' and 'Hercules and Lycus.'
