Basilicata

Basilicata, one of the sixteen 'compartimenti' of the kingdom of Italy, touching the Gulf of Taranto. It exactly corresponds with the official 'province' of Potenza (q.v.), the province being the administrative unit, the compartimento usually a conventional grouping of several of the 69 provinces.
