Syndicate

Chambers's Encyclopaedia, Volume 10: Swastika to Zyrianovsk and Index, p. 33

Syndicate in the commercial world is used to indicate an association of merchants or others for the purpose of carrying through some great or important enterprise, or for securing a kind of artificial monopoly in the production or supply of some commodity.
