Tadcaster, a market-town in the West Riding of Yorkshire, occupying the site of the Roman Calcaria, on the Wharfe, 9 miles SW. of York. At Towton, 2½ miles S., on Palm Sunday, 29th May 1461, the Yorkists gained a great victory. Pop. 3000.
