Tantia Topee, the most notable leader under Nana Sabib (q.v.) of the Indian Mutiny, who, in alliance with the Rani of Jhansi, held the field for a time after his chief had fled. He lied in the jungles of Central India till 7th April 1859, when he was captured and executed.
