Tcherkask (Old Tcherkask), a town of South Russia, formerly the capital of the Don Cossacks, on the right bank of the Don, 12 miles S. of Novotcherkask (q.v.), the present capital. Pop. 15,000.—TCHERKASY, or TCHERKASK, a town of Russia, 190 miles by rail SE. of Kieff, on the Dnieper. Pop. 15,470.
