Theophilus

Chambers's Encyclopaedia, Volume 10: Swastika to Zyrianovsk and Index, p. 167

Theophilus, Bishop of Antioch from 168, wrote (180-181) in three books, addressed to a pagan friend Autolycus, an apology for Christianity (ed. by Otto in Corpus Apologetarum, vol. viii. Jena, 1861). The genuineness of a commentary on the gospels is defended by Zahn, assailed by Harnack.
