Tinnevelli (Tiru-nel-vēli), chief town of the British district of the same name, is situated 1\frac{1}{2} mile from the river Tambraparni. The town of Tinnevelli is connected with the town and military station of Pallamcotta, on the opposite bank of the river, which is the administrative headquarters of the district. It contains a Sind temple and a Hindu college, and has a cotton-factory. It is an important Protestant missionary centre, and the terminus of the Tinnevelli branch of the South Indian Railway. Pop. 23,221.
