Troon, a seaport and watering-place of Ayrshire, 6 miles N. by W. of Ayr and 31 SW. of Glasgow. The harbour, begun in 1808, was completed at a cost of half a million. A fine new parish church was opened in 1893, and a new water-supply turned on in 1897. Golf-links were laid out in 1878; and Troon also has splendid sands and good sea-bathing. Pop. 2383.
