Tzana, TANA, or DEMBEA, a great fresh-water lake on the high plateau of Abyssinia, south of Gondar. The greatest length is 60 miles; the breadth varies from 30 to 40. It is fed by numerous streams and is the main reservoir of the Blue Nile (q.v.), which flows into and out of it under the name of Abai. The water is clear and full of fish, with hippopotami; there are many small basaltic islands, some of them inhabited.
