Varnish Tree, a name given to trees belonging to several distinct natural orders, the resinous juice of which is used for varnishing or for lacquering. The Black Varnish Tree, Melanorrhœa usitatissima (Anacardiaceæ); the Japan Varnish Tree, Rhus vernicifera (Anacardiaceæ); the New Granada Varnish Tree, Elwagia utilis (Cinchonaceæ); and the Sylhet Varnish Tree, Semecarpus anacardium (Anacardiaceæ).
