Wendt, HANS HINRICH, German theologian, was born in Hamburg, 18th June 1853, studied at Leipzig, Göttingen, and Tübingen, became privat-docent in theology at Göttingen (1877), and professor extra-ordinary (1881), and was called to a chair at Kiel in 1883, at Heidelberg in 1885. His books include Die Begriffe Fleisch und Geist im biblischen Sprachgebrauch (1878), Die Christliche Lehre von der menschlichen Vollkommenheit (1882), and Die Lehre Jesu (2 vols. 1886-90; Eng. trans. 1892—a book of unique importance), as well as the 5th to 7th editions of Meyer's Commentary on the Acts (1880-89).
