Chambers's Encyclopaedia, Volume 10: Swastika to Zyrianovsk and Index, p. 689

Winsey, or WINCEY, a cloth consisting of woollen warp and cotton weft, or of wool mixed with a portion of cotton. Heavy winseys are used for skirting, light winsey for men's shirts. The word is believed to be shortened from linsey-winsey, a jingling modification of linsey-woolsey.
