Zagazig, a town of the Egyptian delta, capital of a district and an important railway centre, 50 miles NE. of Cairo, on a branch of the Sweet-water Canal connecting Ismailia with the Nile. It was occupied by the British troops immediately after the battle of Tel-el-Kebir. Pop. 19,046.
