Beddoe, JOHN, anthropologist, born at Bewdley, Worcestershire, in 1826, was educated at Bridgnorth, University College, London, and Edinburgh University, graduating B.A. of London in 1851, and M.D. of Edinburgh in 1853. He served as a civil surgeon during the Crimean war, and afterwards established himself in practice at Clifton. He is the author of Stature and Bulk of Man in the
British Isles (1870), The Races of Britain (1886), and other anthropological and ethnological works.
