Belleville, a city of Illinois, U.S., situated in a productive region, 16 miles SE. of St Louis, with coal-beds in the vicinity. Two railways intersect here; and there are manufactures of iron goods, thrashing-machines, and flour. Pop. (1871) 8146; (1891) 15,361, of which a large proportion is German.
