Benitier

Chambers's Encyclopaedia, Volume 2: Beaugency to Cataract, p. 79

Benitier, the vase or vessel for Holy Water (q.v.) in Roman Catholic churches, known in England as the holy-water font, vat, pot, stone, stock, or stoup. Benitiers are either movable or fixed; portable ones, commonly of silver, being used in processions; and fixed benitiers placed near the doors of churches, so that the people may dip their fingers in the water, and cross themselves with it as they enter or leave the church.
