Beregonium

Chambers's Encyclopaedia, Volume 2: Beaugency to Cataract, p. 88

Beregonium is a misprint in the Ulm edition of Ptolemy's Geography (1486) for Rerigonium, a town of the Novantæ, now identified with the fort of Innermessan on the east shore of Loch Ryan. Boece applied the name Beregonium to a large vitrified fort in Ardchattan parish, Argyllshire, 5½ miles NNE. of Oban. But there is no historical ground for supposing this to have been a seat of ancient kings, Scottish or other, as is often assumed.
