Beypur, a seaport of Western India, in Malabar district, Madras, near the mouth of the Beypur River, 6 miles S. of Calicut. Iron ore and coal are found in the neighbourhood, and ironworks have been established here. Since 1858 Beypur has acquired importance as the terminus of a railway across the peninsula of India from Madras by way of Coimbatore, but is still a small place; pop. 6739.
