Bhavaabhūti, surnamed 'Śrī-kantha,' a great Indian dramatist, who flourished in the first half of the 8th century, and wrote three plays and a domestic drama (see SANSKRIT, Vol. IX. p. 152). Bhavaabhūti is often compared with Kālidāsa, whom he equalled in vigour and variety, but hardly in genius. All three plays have been translated into English.
