Binney, THOMAS, D.D., LL.D., a Congregational preacher, born at Newcastle in 1798, in 1829 settled in London, where he soon acquired extensive popularity. The new Weigh-house Chapel, near London Bridge, was erected for him by his hearers in 1833, and here he continued to labour with great success till 1869. He died 24th February 1874. Of his numerous writings the most popular was Is it Possible to make the Best of Both Worlds? (1853). See the Lives by Stoughton (1874) and Paxton Hood (1874).
