Bitonto (ancient Butuntum), a town of Italy, 10 miles WSW. of Bari. It is situated in a fruitful plain about 5 miles from the sea, is well built, and has a fine cathedral and a theatre. In the vicinity the Spaniards defeated the Austrians in 1734. Pop. 22,726.
