Björnstjerna, MAGNUS, COUNT, a Swedish Liberal statesman, born in 1779, in 1809 was sent on a secret embassy to Napoleon, in 1813 fought at Leipzig, and subsequently in Holstein and in Norway, where in 1814 he concluded the treaty that united that country with Sweden. In 1826 he received the title of count; and from 1828 till 1846 was ambassador to Great Britain. He died at Stockholm, 6th October 1847. Besides some political writings, he published a work on the Hindu Theogony (1843).
