Bomb-proofs are military structures of such immense thickness and strength that shells cannot penetrate them. In every fort, the barracks, hospital, stores, and magazines are covered with masonry and earth, or even, in some cases, with thick armour-plates, so as to be impervious to the fire of the most powerful siege-guns and mortars. See CASEMATE, and MAGAZINE.
