Bongardia, a peculiar herbaceous genus of Berberideæ (q.v.), natives of the East. One species (B. Rauwolfii) produces tubers, which are eaten, either boiled or roasted, in Persia; and the leaves of another (B. chrysogonum) have an acid taste, and are eaten as a salad.
