Boufflers, STANISLAS, MARQUIS DE, commonly styled the Chevalier de Boufflers, was born at Lunéville in 1737. He was the son of the witty Marquise de Boufflers, who played a brilliant part at the court of Stanislaus, the exiled king of Poland. He rose to the rank of marshal, was a poet and literary man of some note, and much admired in the French salons of his time. He died in 1815. We have his Œuvres Choisies (4 vols. 1828), and a new edition of his Contes en Vers et Prose (1878).
