Bryant, JACOB, born at Plymouth in 1715, was educated at Eton and King's College, Cambridge, and in 1756 became secretary to his old pupil the Duke of Marlborough. He died 14th Nov. 1804. The chief of his many works is the Analysis of Ancient Mythology (3 vols. 1774-76), which, largely based upon the Abbé Banier, might have served as the pattern of Mr Casaubon's 'Key' in Middlemarch.
