Burton, SIR FREDERIC WILLIAM, water-colour painter, was born in County Clare in 1816, and educated at Dublin. In 1856 he became a member of the Society of Painters in Water-colours; in 1874, director of the National Gallery; and in 1884 he was knighted. He retired in 1894.
