Calprenède, GAUTIER DE COSTES DE LA (1610-63), a French officer of the guards and royal chamberlain, wrote many tragedies, &c., but is best known as author of the heroic romances—clever but endless and tedious—of Cleopatre, Cassandre, and others. See NOVELS.
