Calycanthus

Calycanthus (Gr., 'calyx-flower'), a genus of Calycanthaceæ, a small order connecting Ranunculaceæ with Rosaceæ, and of which only a few species are known, natives of North America and Japan. They are square-stemmed aromatic shrubs. The bark of C. floridus (Carolina Allspice) affords a substitute for cinnamon.
