Camden, a city and port of entry of New Jersey, and capital of Camden county, stands on the left bank of the Delaware River, opposite Philadelphia, with which it is connected by five steam-ferries. It is the terminus of six railways, and has several shipyards and dry-docks, important foundries, cotton and woollen mills, and large manufactures of machinery, ironwares, paints, oil-cloths, &c. Pop. (1880) 41,659; (1890) 58,312.
